Nacionalni park Paklenica je po proglašenju drugi nacionalni park u Hrvatskoj, proglašen još 19. listopada 1949. godine, tek nekoliko mjeseci nakon NP Plitvička jezera. Svakako treba napomenuti da je Paklenica prvi put bila proglašena Nacionalnim parkom još 1929. godine, ali zakonom kojeg je trebalo revidirati svake godine, a što se nije činilo.
